Manuel Salvadores

Staff Software Engineer, Datadog

Manuel Salvadores is a software engineer with over 20 years of experience in research and industry. He has a strong background in back-end and data engineering. Before joining Datadog, Manuel led projects that spanned multiple large-scale distributed systems at Google. At Datadog, Manuel continues to work at the convergence of databases and distributed systems.

Cross Product Queries at Datadog

In this talk, Manuel Salvadores will introduce the Cross-Product Query (XPQ) team’s mission at Datadog. XPQ maintains query systems and languages across the petabyte-scale data platforms at Datadog. This includes systems with hundreds of thousands of queries per second at low-latencies that power user experiences like alerts and dashboards, as well as SQL systems that join large datasets to provide insightful experiences.

We will walk you through Datadog’s main data platforms (events, metrics, and REDAPL) and how XPQ is building query platforms (SQL and Metrics) that support different workloads (real-time, interactive analytics, and offline jobs). The talk will provide both a high-level overview of our systems and interesting details about the fundamental database challenges and complex distributed system programming involved.

Fabiana Scala is a Senior Engineer on the OrgStore Query team at Datadog. She enjoys empowering fellow engineers with platform solutions to build features faster without compromising on scale or quality. Currently she is also spending her free time learning Japanese and playing tennis.

Making it Simple to Do the Right Thing with Postgres

This talk will explore how we approached building a fully managed postgres PaaS for Datadog engineers. Standing on the shoulders of giants we will talk about how we leveraged the lessons learned of past incidents, ops toil, and user feedback to simplify how we manage postgres as operators and make it simple for users build services on top of postgres in a reliable way.
